CommunityHero was built around a simple idea: it should be easier for people to lend a hand locally.
Across Edinburgh and the Lothians, there are charities, community groups, and local organisations doing brilliant work every day, from food support and community gardens to environmental projects, events, mentoring, and practical help for people who need it. But too often, the challenge is not willingness. It is connection.
Great organisations struggle to get the visibility they deserve. People who want to help do not always know where to start. Teams looking for meaningful volunteering days can find the process fragmented and time-consuming. CommunityHero is designed to bring all of that together in one simple place.
Why Edinburgh?
We are launching first in Edinburgh and the Lothians because this is home. It is where we live, where we know the communities, and where we believe a local-first approach can make the biggest difference.
This area has an incredible community spirit. From litter picks along the Water of Leith to local food banks, youth groups, support organisations, repair projects, and neighbourhood initiatives, there is no shortage of people doing good work. What is often missing is a simple, modern way to discover those opportunities and bring the right people into them.

Community volunteering brings people together and turns good intentions into real local impact.
What CommunityHero does
CommunityHero helps local organisations share volunteering opportunities and helps people find ways to get involved. Whether someone wants to volunteer on their own, with friends, or as part of a company team, the goal is the same: make it easier to discover meaningful opportunities and take action.
For organisations, that means a clearer way to post opportunities, manage applications, and reach more volunteers. For volunteers, it means being able to browse local opportunities, filter by what matters, and apply without jumping through hoops.
How it works
If you run a charity, nonprofit, or community organisation, you can create an account, add your opportunities, and start receiving applications through the platform. Each listing goes through a quick review before it goes live, helping us keep the quality of opportunities high and build trust across the platform from day one.
If you want to volunteer, you can browse opportunities by location, date, and category, explore what is available near you, and apply in just a few clicks. You might be coming on your own, joining with a couple of friends, or helping organise a company volunteering day, CommunityHero is built to support all of those routes in a way that feels simple and welcoming.
Starting local, building carefully
Right now, we are focused on building strong local foundations. We are actively onboarding organisations across Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian, and Midlothian, listening closely to feedback, and shaping the platform around real local needs.
That means starting with quality over quantity. We want opportunities to be clear, useful, and genuinely valuable for the people and teams applying to them. We want the experience to feel friendly, trustworthy, and easy from both sides.

Our launch area includes Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian, and Midlothian.
What comes next
This is just the beginning. Our immediate focus is making CommunityHero genuinely useful here in Edinburgh and the Lothians, helping more organisations get seen, helping more people discover ways to help, and making volunteering easier to organise and join.
Over time, we want CommunityHero to become a platform that supports not just individual volunteers, but local groups, community crews, and company teams looking to show up and do something positive together. But first, we are focused on getting the foundations right in the communities closest to us.
